How to rid the body of excess/ trapped wind

Here’s a tip to deal with a common ailment that affects all of us from young to old including animals and that is trapped wind. We all know how much discomfort it can cause and even very painful sometimes (stomach aches, sudden pain on the side of the body that moves to other parts of the body as it squeezes pass etc). There are medicated oils (tiger balm is also effective but more suited for smaller skin areas such as just the belly) available to rid the body of trapped wind (from a Chinese pharmacy) but not everyone can easily get hold of these oils but everyone has salt and cooking oil in their kitchens. Yes they are all we need.

Skin should be dry. Take a few drops of fresh cooking oil (any cooking oil) and a pinch of table salt together on one palm and rub the two palms together until warm then massage the oil and salt onto the full belly area and both sides of the body in an upwards circular motion continuously until the oil is almost absorbed into the skin (see illustrations-massage on shaded areas). The salt and oil will open up the pores to release the wind. Again a few more drops of oil and a pinch of salt on the palm to repeat the process. Do this about 4-5 times (more if you need it) on the same area of skin until you can actually feel some relief. To get the full benefits you should also do the chest area above the nipples all the way from one shoulder across to the other shoulder and get a family member to repeat this process several times on the full back from the shoulders all the way down to the spine (see illustrations). Doing both the front and the back together can give proper relief as a large body of wind is released at once.

Massage on shaded areas of the body

Wind is present in our bodies at all times and it is a matter of keeping it at a level that is comfortable and painless. Just doing the front belly area can give temporary relief and it is quick and convenient if you are in a hurry. You may need more massages later on as you probably haven’t release sufficient wind from this small area of skin to feel the full benefits.

Afterwards just wipe the skin with a tissue to remove any bits of salt. Your skin should feel quite soft. You can wash the hands straight away.

Using medicated oil, tiger balm, white flower oil and all other menthol oils etc work faster. If you are pregnant or have a lot of medication consult your doctors first before using any of the medicated oils.

If you do manage to get hold of some medicated oil, just pour 2-3 drops of the oil onto one palm and massage directly onto the dry skin (no need to rub palms together) in the same upwards circular motion on the same areas of the body as mentioned and illustrated. Once the oil is absorbed into the skin repeat the process and pour more oil onto the palm (2-3 drops each time) and massage again (pour oil and massage, pour oil and massage continuously) until all the mentioned areas of the body are done. Afterwards wipe the palm with a tissue and DO NOT wash the hands until at least an hour later. So it is best to go to the toilet beforehand to avoid the need to wash the hands after. You should feel a cool sensation on your body for at least half hour to 40 minutes as the oil opens your pores to release the wind. The colder it feels the better as it shows the oil is effective. If there is hardly any cold sensation and it is not for very long then the oil is no longer effective and a new bottle should be used. Ask the Chinese pharmacy for recommendations of which brand to go for, or just try out different brands of oil yourself to find the more effective ones.

Babies should use only the cooking oil and no salt on the belly area if you feel there is a need for it and all other conventional ways for babies are exhausted. Children under ten years old can use the medicated oil but only for small areas such as just the belly. For larger areas such as the full back then use the cooking oil and the pinch of salt as their young skin is more tender and sensitive.

According to the older generation of mothers (they swear by the effectiveness) if a baby cries out of the blue (sometimes even half way feeding) and not because of the usual reasons (hunger, soiled nappies and tiredness) it could be because the baby is suffering pain from trapped wind in the belly. They say if the baby's forehead is slightly cold and not warm as normal and obviously the belly is bloated, then it is indication of trapped wind. Take half a teaspoon of cooking oil onto one palm (WITHOUT the salt) and as mentioned above, rub the two palms together with the oil until quite warm and then massage the warm oil over the baby's belly to release the wind. Medicated oils can also do the trick but ask the pharmacy which oils are more suitable for babies and toddlers.

Obviously the medicate oil is the better option as the pores are kept open longer ( the cold sensation). The cooking oil and salt will only keep the pores open as long as you are massaging the skin with the oil continuously. Once you stop the pore closes and that is why you need to massage the same areas several more times with more oil and salt until you feel some relief. With the medicated oil, all you need is to cover the areas thoroughly with the oil and it will release the wind during this cold sensation period. Sometimes if there is a lot of wind you may need two to three applications of the medicated oil.

We are more prone to getting excess/ trapped wind in the body when we are ill because our bodies are weaker.

Hey, if you got a sore throat or a nasty cough, gargling with salt water can ease the coughing and make your throat feel less sore. May even stop the pain in the throat. Gargle for a minute or two and if you feel better then stop. If you feel you need more, then an extra minute or two should be sufficient. Afterwards just rinse the mouth out with normal water.

A vital tip for Asthma sufferers when the blue inhaler's not working

This a tip from a relative with asthma. When your emergency blue inhaler is not working during a severe Asthma attack, other than ringing for an ambulance to get to the hospital, there is another vital action you need to take to ensure your airways are opened sufficiently long enough to get to the hospital. You need to buy "Solpadeine Plus soluble tablets" which comes in a red packet and can be purchased over-the-counter in any pharmacy or supermarkets. These are normal painkillers but PLEASE BE WARNED, use the tablets only in emergencies  as they can be ADDICTIVE if taken continuously (read instructions and warnings on the packet) and you can only buy one packet each time. So don't use them for minor ailments that can be taken care of with normal paracetamol. Also, make sure you keep these tablets handy whether you are indoors or out. If you are out, have a bottle of water with you. You can drop the tablets in the bottle easily if there is a need. Make sure your family/ friends know where these tablets are too.

Whilst a family member/ friend or yourself is ringing for the ambulance dissolve 2 tablets (16 years old or over) or 1 tablet (12-15 years old) in a cup full of cold water The packet warns NOT to give to children under 12 years old (please read instructions thoroughly). At the same time, continue to use your blue inhaler and once the tablets are dissolved, drink as much of the drink as you can (the whole lot if you can), even though it is difficult to do so when you are struggling to breathe. So, if you know a severe attack is coming and the blue inhaler is not working well, don't wait till the breathing is really bad before doing something about it. Get those tablets in the water ready. The tablets will reduce the inflammation in your body and open up your airways within approximately 10 minutes. It still helps even if you only managed to drink some of the drink but better the whole cup. Also, carry on using your blue inhaler as the combination of both is more effective together in opening the airways and helps to get you to the hospital safely. Even if you are feeling ok after taking the tablets, do still go to the hospital for a thorough check-up on everything, especially the oxygen levels in your body just in case.

There is a max strength version of the Solpadeine soluble tablets but my relative haven't use them before, so there is no advice on those.

Of course prevention is always better than a cure. You can reduce the number and severity of attacks by steaming and boiling your foods more, eat everything in moderation except you should eat more vegetables (cooked or those that can be eaten raw) and some fruit daily as they are anti-inflammatory. Reduce your coffee intake and drink more tea instead, more new or mash potatoes rather than chips and roasted ones, boiled eggs more often than fried ones etc.

What are hives and how to get rid of them

Hives are heat bumps combined with trapped wind. The body encourages itching so the scratching process can help to release the wind and heat through the skin. It is a sign the body has been over-heating for a while and it takes just one final exposure to extreme heat (e.g. working under the full glare of the sun for hours) for the body to throw out the dangerous heat in the form of hives (better out than in as they say).

In situations like this, drink 2-3 big glasses of one of the following drinks - fruit juice, soya milk, milk(only if you have no intolerance to beef products otherwise milk can make the situation worse), ice lemon tea, honey lemon tea, aloe vera drink, watermelon drink, coconut drink etc all cold from the fridge. All these drinks are anti-inflammatory and help to lower the excess heat in the body. To ease the itchiness, take a biggish fresh ginger and cut in half the widest area of the ginger so the raw end is at least the size of a 50p piece. It doesn't matter if the size is smaller. Pour a  measure of brandy into a small bowl and dip the raw side of the ginger into the brandy and rub the raw end with the brandy over the affected skin. It helps to cool the skin and release the trapped wind. Repeat the process again and again until the brandy is gone. The hives should ease up within the hour or maybe even quicker.

The next 2 days you should avoid coffee, biscuits, toasts, crisps, fry-ups etc and have more tea, juices, milk and other anti-inflammatory drinks, vegetables, fruit etc. It helps to reduce the excess heat further. After the 2 days, go back to your normal diet but reduce your coffee intake in general and drink more tea instead, eat more vegetables and some fruit and steam and boil your foods more. All this helps to reduce the severity and number future hive attacks.

Some tips on how to treat the Common Cold, Influenza, Chest infection etc and get better quicker

We have all tried this method and it works perfectly well. REMEMBER this is only a TEMPORARY MEASURE to stop some virus in its tracks before it develops into something nasty.

Obviously a virus that can enter our bodies and eventually develops into influenza, common cold, chest infection etc means our normal body temperature is the right environment for it to flourish. Now we need to make our bodies unsuitable and hostile so the virus cannot grow strong.

As the saying goes: "Prevention is better than a cure".

As soon as you have a sore throat, sniffles, runny nose, heavy head, headache or feel unwell in any way immediately take any painkillers that you normally have to get rid of it. The sore throat stage means the virus is still very weak and not fully developed and you are stronger and have the upper-hand. At the same time another very IMPORTANT step is utilize our DIET to lower our body heat to stop the virus from growing and spreading. The third stage is to enhance our immune system and that is to get rested fully such as getting sufficient sleep etc. Overly tiredness can lower our immune system.

The initial symptoms of a chest infection is a constant need to cough and there is a heaviness on the chest as if something is resting on the chest. Go through this same process.

Coloured phlegm means virus is present in your body. Light colour means the virus is not yet that strong and dark colour usually indicates the virus is more likely to be fully developed.

If you follow these 3 important steps your sore throat should be gone within 1 to 2 days. During these 1 or 2 days you may only need to take the painkillers once or twice and you can stop taking them once the sore throat goes, but stay on the diet for another day just to make sure the virus remains weak and hopefully eventually die off. If the sore throat comes back just repeat this whole process again, the painkillers, diet and resting.

A day or two after the sore throat disappears then GO BACK to your NORMAL EATING HABITS. But in general have more tea than coffee and include more vegetables and fruit in your diet and sometimes try steaming and or boiling your foods etc.

The foods that are anti-inflammatory and you SHOULD HAVE when you are unwell are as follows:

Vegetables (raw or cooked) e.g carrots, lettuce, cucumbers, onions, tomatoes, peas etc. Fruit e.g apples, grapes, strawberries, blueberries, melons oranges, raspberries, avocados, bananas etc., yoghurt (even better with live cultured good bacteria in it), smoothies, honey lemon tea, honey and cider vinegar drink, English tea, Chinese tea, Aloe Vera drinks, cold milk, Salads (potato salad, pasta salad etc), Fruit juices, Soups (vegetable, tomato, chicken, lentil minestrone etc), pulses(baked beans, peas etc), pickled vegatables( onions, beetroot, gherkins etc), pasta, any meats except red and lamb etc.

The liquids work faster so several cups of tea a day, honey lemon tea etc.

During these 1 or 2 days steam and or boil your foods. For instance have a boiled egg instead of a fried egg, mash and boil potatoes instead of chips and roast potatoes, soft baps instead of crusty bread etc.

The following foods can increase your body heat and should be AVOIDED until your sore throat disappears:

Coffee, latte, chocolate( the drink and the sweet), cocoa, malt drinks, boiled milk, biscuits, toasts, crisps, chips, roasted potatoes, crackers, cornflakes, red meats, lamb etc.

During these 1 or 2 days avoid the following cooking methods and foods cooked by these methods until your sore throat disappears:

Deep-frying, frying, pan-frying, toasting, grilling, flame-grilling, baking, roasting.

Even if the virus does develop into a cough it should be very mild, the phlegm lightly coloured and you suffer less. If this happens stay on the diet until you are completely better.

The food list is obviously not complete as there are too many foods out there. If you are not too sure you can leave it or have it but in moderation. Even if you can't follow the diet completely, just eating some of the right foods and avoid some of the inappropriate foods can increase your chances of getting better quicker.

I repeat, this is only TEMPORARY and you can GET BACK to your NORMAL favourite foods when you get better.

Even now you can help yourself a lot by starting to drink more tea, eat more vegetables, fruit and honey lemon tea, yoghurts especially those with the live cultured good bacteria in it, soups (with lots of veg in it) etc.

WE HAVE ACTUALLY USED THIS METHOD THROUGHOUT THIS PANDEMIC AND SO FAR SO GOOD WE HAVE BEEN OK. HOPEFULLY THIS WORKS. NO HARM IN GIVING THIS A GO TO HELP WITH THE SYMPTOMS OF COVID.

BREAKING NEWS FROM CNN (24 March 2020) Read up on Dr. Li Wenliang documented case files. The chemical Methylxanthine, Theobromine and Theophylline stimulate compounds that can ward off this Corona Virus. Unbelievable our regular TEA has all these chemicals already in it.

Latest tips on the Covid Vaccines. . We heard that people have had advice from the doctors that just before you go off for the vaccine to take a couple of aspirins and two hours after the vaccine to take another couple of aspirins. This should get rid of all the unpleasant symptoms a lot of people are having after the vaccinations.

Tips on how to get rid of most Migraine headaches

I have suspected that most migraine headaches are caused by trapped wind/gas within the body. Thankfully a friend has successfully treated a migraine sufferer friend and reduced the pain within minutes and the headache was gone within 40 minutes. But be wary that not all migraines are of this cause as headaches can be the result of a number of things. Persistant headaches should be checked out ASAP with your doctor, as some headaches can be the result of something as serious as a blood clot, tumour etc.

I am sure we have all experienced the excruciating pain caused by trapped wind and this can also happen in our heads and that is why migraines can be so painful.

To get rid of the headaches go back up to the section on how to rid the body of excess/ trapped wind and follow the instructions massaging the body areas as shown and add the following:

After massaging the body as instructed above try to get hold of a medicated oil, tiger balm, white flower oil etc (Tiger balm is available in most supermarkets and the medicated oils in a Chinese supermarket or Chinese pharmacy). If you are pregnant or are on heavy medication consult your doctor first before using the medicated oils, Tiger balm etc and read the instructions thoroughly before use.

Using the tips of your fingers, apply 1-2 drops of oil or a thin layer of balm on the fingers and massage across the whole of the forehead (keeping well away from the eyes), even massaging an inch over the top hairline, both the temples, the front, sides and the back of the neck and behind the ears covering also an inch over the hairline above the ears. At the back of the neck massage 1-2 inches over the hairline as well and also across the top of the shoulders. Again applying 1-2 drops of oil/ thin layer of balm each time you are massaging different parts of the head and neck just like you do with the body massage. Afterwards wipe the oil/ balm off with a tissue. Do not wash your hands until at least an hour later.

Applying the oil on just on the head gives only temporary relief because not enough of the wind/gas is released from the body in one go so the headache comes back when the remaining internal wind/gas spreads out across the whole body. Therefore the whole body needs to be done at the same time to give a more long term relief.

If there is a lot of trapped wind repeat the process until the headache is gone. You will know the headache is caused by trapped wind as the pain starts to diminish within minutes of the application.

Waking up and gasping for breath in the middle of the night

When this happens, go to the fridge and drink a glass a cold honey lemon tea or cold milk/ soya milk or fruit juice. The drinks can cool the body down and reduce what we believe to be some kind of swelling along the breathing apparatus, therefore narrowing the breathing canal. you should sleep better afterwards.

When the body over-heats for a sufficient time frame, it can create inflammation or swelling within the body and over time give us the numerous health problems we suffer today.

What are the causes of Enlarged Organs within the body

Many people suffer from enlarged organs such as prostate, liver, heart etc and we believe it is caused by the body over-heating as mentioned above. Some people naturally have very high body heat through reasons of hormones and or from their diet. So, when the internal organs are exposed to this heat for a while, inflammation can result and or the organs start to swell. So, a diet of lots of vegetables and moderation of fruit, and steaming or boiling your foods more can reduce the likelihood of getting this problem. See previous paragraphs(above) about the diet with more vegetables and fruit and the drinks.

Golfish Care

Do you sometimes find your goldfish sitting at the bottom of the tank, a bit listless and not moving much. Well, feed the goldfish ONLY peas (shelled) for a few days and it should be up and swimming about. The goldfish is probably suffering from inflammation and peas are anti-inflammatory. If they get ill (e.g. white spots on the body etc) use medication that works for your goldfish and feed them only peas for a few days. They will get better a lot quicker.

The best peas to use are garden peas. Petite Pois are also good but their small size means it is time consuming shelling enough to feed your goldfish. Take a bag of frozen peas (normally comes in 900g-1kg weight) and bring to a boil in a pot of water (just enough water to cover the peas). When the water reaches boiling point simmer on lower heat for another 2-5 minutes more depending on the brand of peas. You want the peas slightly soft but not mushy. After simmering for 1 minute, spoon out a couple of the biggest peas and put them in cold water before shelling them to test out the texture (slightly soft not mushy). If still hard simmer for longer. Through trial and error you should get it right eventually. When done, sieve out the water and let them cool off in a number of soup bowls. Once cold put them in a plastic bag to put in the freezer. The peas will definitely stick together in a clump once frozen, so split them up using whatever method that suits you (e.g. using a blunt instrument on a wooden table with the peas still inside the bag etc). Take out only enough peas to feed your goldfish each time. For the really big goldfish about 4-5 shelled peas per fish a day. For the smaller goldfish about 1-2 shelled peas per fish chopped up for easier consumption especially if you have more than one goldfish. If you are using Petite Pois, at least double the number of peas. Chopping and spreading out the peas ensures all the goldfish get some. Feed your goldfish peas about 4 times a week  and they should stay quite healthy.

What to do if your goldfish medication is not working

If your goldfish is suffering from white spots, ulcers or any skin infection and your goldfish medication is not getting rid of the problem, use SALT. Table salt is the answer. Put some salt onto a small dish/ saucer and for hygiene reasons use the dish only for your goldfish. Place the dish on or near the surface where fish is to be treated. For goldfish 7 inches long or smaller I normally use a plastic tub lid to place my goldfish on top on the side of the sink as you need to be near a tap. Use a net to transfer your fish out of the tank onto the lid. Place the fish onto its side still within the net with the side to be treated exposed. Use some of the net to cover the tail to stop the fish from flapping about. Dab a wet finger into the salt pile and then dab the salted finger onto the infected area of the body and leave for a few seconds. Then lift the fish with the net and place under a running tap to rinse off the salt. Almost immediately, treat the same area again, so twice in total. Repeat the same process if you need to treat the other side of the fish. The areas treated by the salt would become whitish in colour but will disappear later. Much bigger goldfish should be transferred into a separate smaller tank with the minimal of space and water (just enough water to cover the fish height), so that you can easily lift the area of the body that needs to be treated out of the water for treatment. Again dabbing the salted finger onto the infected areas. You may need to use an apron as there would be a lot of splashing of the tail. You may need to repeat the treatments the next day if the infection is quite bad. Also at the same time, feed your infected goldfish only peas for the next few days to ensure the treatment is more successful, as peas can reduce internal inflammation. The infection should be gone after a couple of days of the salt treatment. If not, repeat the treatments for another day or two.
